Marcus Rashford (2), Anthony Martial and Daniel James grabbed the goals on what was a joyous occasion at the Theatre of Dreams.
It was a particularly special day for James and fellow debutants Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, though.
The trio cost United £145m in the summer transfer window and all made glowing impressions in front of their new fans.
Maguire marshalled the defence superbly, Wan-Bissaka was a constant threat going forward, while James' pace proved too hot to handle.
Speaking after the game on his own debut as a Sky Sports pundit, Jose Mourinho lauded Maguire - who won Man of the Match - for his performance.
"He was solid like a rock," said the former United boss. "It's very important fora team to have that personality, that sense of reading the game, being alert, confidence to play. He was fantastic."
Maguire and Wan-Bissaka have a long way to go before justifying their £80m and £50m fees respectively, but they showed against Chelsea that they're going to be huge hits.
Here's a breakdown of their statistics from the game.
Harry Maguire:
86% pass accuracy
Seven clearances (most in match)
Four interceptions (most in match)
Two blocks
Zero fouls committed
Zero goals conceded
Dribbled past zero times
Aaron Wan-Bissaka:
100% aerial duels won
86% pass accuracy
Six tackles won
Three interceptions
Two out of four take-ons completed
Zero fouls committed
Zero goals conceded
Maguire's biggest achievement from the game was getting the best out of Victor Lindelof, who finally seems to have found the perfect partner at centre-back.
The Swede had a fantastic game and United fans are hopeful that he can finally realise his potential this season.
Exciting times ahead for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's me
